We went to Versailles as a group this morning. The thing about traveling in a group of 50 people is that...it's hard to keep everyone together. And when you get on a train heading in the wrong direction, people get stressed. But after navigating for a while we found the right station and shortly after...Versailles! I can't believe how big this place is.
We went through the palace and walked through the hall of mirrors where the Treaty of Versailles was signed. The outside gardens are huge, there was no possible way we could've covered the entire grounds. I think the flowers were my favorite part...Oh wait. They're weren't any because everything is still dead! The fountains that weren't on were pretty even without the water too...But really. It was pretty, but I can imagine how much prettier the grounds would be in bloom.
Musee de Orsay is a train station that has been converted into a museum. There was a lot of Van Gogh and Monet (my favorite!) and a big impressionist section. Definitely in the top for museums to visit.
After the museum we walked back to the hotel to meet up with some others from our group. We all went to the Eiffel tower together. I got fruit from a stand and a savory crepe for dinner, it was magnifique! We ate by the carousel, the French seem to like those. Either that or they think Americans do so they put them in to attract the tourists. We had planned to go on a boat cruise on the Sciene that started at 9pm, so around 8:30 we started walking towards the docks. We couldn't find the company we were looking for, so Kellen decided to ask a man who worked at a booth. The rest of us were waiting in a clump on the deserted road for Kellen to tell us what we were going to do when he turns around shouts "Everybody, LET'S GO!" It might not sound funny, actually I'm sure it doesn't on here, but it was hilarious. He sounded like we were about to march to war. I will forever have that image engraved in my mind.
We ended up running...more like sprinting...towards the boat since it was almost nine. That meant running through traffic (not as risky as it sounds...the cars were stopped), hopping fences, crossing the bridge and finally getting to the right dock. I'm sure we looked so ridiculous. Good news though: We made it onto the boat in time. It turned out to be such a good night. The cruise was incredible! *Imagine me saying that like the French robber in the beginning of Disney's 'Incredibles'... So incroyable!* The water was reflecting purple and orange and we passed palaces and museums and had the best view of the Eiffel Tower. We saw it sparkle!
Sarah shared her chocolate with us tonight. It was the K-mart of chocolate in France I guess, but it was the most delicious chocolate I've ever had...I wonder what the really expensive kind tastes like then? Anyhow. That was how the night ended.
